We mentioned last year about an iPhone app that monitored Omron PLCs called Scadamobile. The new version (1.3) that was approved on iTunes a few days ago, now supports the Ethernet/IP protocol. This app allows the user to read/write tags in the Logix family (CompactLogix and ControlLogix) of Allen Bradley controllers.

Lantronix has just released the hybrid ethernet multiport device server — a device that connects any device and give it remote capability. Part of the DeviceLinx series, it is featured with the Evolution OS and comes in eight and sixteen ports.  The EDS has built in AES, SSH and SSL allowing safe remote access and management from virtually anywhere. You will also find a familiar Cisco CLI type interface which simplifies configuration and control and the Com Port Redirector virtualization software (allowing for existing applications to work with the EDS without code modifications).

This is a great addition to their current device servers, offering more functionality and security than its market equivalent competitors.  The EDS 8 port and 16 port series is now available at our online store.

For ye faithful Lantronix WiSpan (Ethernet to Wireless bridge) users, the product line will be discontinued. There will be continued support until Dec 1st, 2009. Replacement for the WiSpan line are the WiBox device servers (a much better *replacement upgrade*).

The latest firmware for the UDS1100, version 6.6.0.1, is now available for download. Firmware v6.6.0.1 has several new features including:

• DNS lookup in Connect Mode – Allows the name of a remote machine to be resolved automatically

• Expanded Monitor Mode commands ‘NC’ and ‘co’ to include name server IP address – Shows the unit’s current IP address, gateway, subnet mask, and DNS server

About the UDS1100

The Lantronix UDS1100 networks any RS232, RS422 and RS485 equipment to Ethernet, allowing quick remote access, management, monitoring and control capability. Configuration can be done via HTTP, DHCP, Telnet, serial or the Lantronix DeviceInstaller utility.
